Healy Late Show Rescues Point for Battling Wycliffe

The Thames Valley Churches Football League returned to action last weekend and the teams produced some red-hot drama to warm up the brave-hearted supporters.  With only three minutes remaining in their home match against Brookside Saint Laurence, Wycliffe Wanderers trailed 2-4, but Neal Healy rounded off a fine individual performance by scoring two late goals to earn his side a share of the points. Healy, the league's top scorer, had already scored twice earlier in the game but his team found themselves behind after strikes by Kieran Knight, Courtenay Isaacs (2) and Olly Chambers.

Greyfriars FC continued their fine recent form with a 3-2 victory at Bethel United.  After scoring early through Alex Barltrop, Bethel United equalised through Scott Sheppard just before half time. Two clinical finishes from James Hern in the second half saw Greyfriars take control of the game until a twenty-five yard strike from Bethel’s Daniel Evans set up a tense last 15 minutes.

Reigning champions Warfield FC took advantage of Tilehurst Albion’s frozen pitch to move within a point of the league leaders with a 9-1 win at Real World Corinthians. Four goals from George Hobden, a Paul Long hat-trick and a goal for Joe Warner sealed their victory as Robin Shaw scored Real World’s consolation goal.

Jamie Carstairs of West Reading CFC also scored four goals as their team recorded their first league victory since October with a 9-0 victory against Vineyard FC. Mark Lyons, Chris Hayman (2), Matty Hayman and Gary Woodward completed the scoring.
