"Barltrop Brace Fires Friars to Victory"
Greyfriars kick-started their season with a 3 - 0 victory over fellow strugglers Reading Saints.  During a fairly even first period where neither side could make the most of their chances, Louie Burton's first time shot finally saw the home side edge ahead just before the half-time whistle.  As Greyfriars relaxed and started to play more controlled football, Alex Barltrop sealed the points with two well-taken strikes after the break, both from the edge of the penalty area.  In an action-packed encounter that saw two penalties and two yellow cards alongside from the seven goals, game of the day was arguably at Bulmershe, where Brookside Saint Laurence smashed five past previously unbeaten West Reading.  Brookside were on top form, especially after West Reading lost talismanic striker Jamie Carstairs to injury.  Two goals apiece from Steve Magness and Ben Sheppard, along with another from Courtney Issacs capped an impressive display.  A Gary Woodward brace was proof that West Reading will remain competitive throughout the season.  Warfield remain clear at the top of the table, but only by a single point after a 2 - 2 draw at Kerith.  In a closely fought contest, the champions' goals came from George Hobden and Mark winning, with Kerith replying through league-leading marksman Jonathan Ellis and Ben Findlay.  Bethel United beat Real World Corinithans 4-2 and with Wycliffe Wanderers unable to field a team, Tilehurst Albion's 100% record was maintained with a walkover; they are second in the table having only 'played' three games.
