Reading Post: 'Deoliveira Delight as Hat-trick Books Bethel a Semi-Final Spot' with unedited report
There were no league fixtures this weekend as, instead, eight teams battled it out in the quarter finals of the Philmar Cup. The draw saw the current top four teams in action against each other, with the promise of good football, entertainment and goals. We were not disappointed. A Sean Deoliveira treble helped Bethel United overcome Reading Saints, the lowest ranked side left in the competition, 5-2. Matt Blake and Rob Jones were on target for a spirited Woodford Park side, but their team could not contain their Coley Park-based opponents. Dominic Atherley-Smith added a double to ensure his Bethel side booked a semi-final slot. League leaders Kerith Community Church entertained third placed Brookside Saint Laurence and, aided by the visitors being reduced to ten men, ran out 4-1 winners. Lee Berry, Adam Fay, Ben Findlay and James Nwoseh hit the net for Kerith while Chris West scored Brookside's reply before receiving his marching orders following two yellow cards. Second placed Tilehurst Albion played fourth placed Warfield FC and, in a closely contested game, goals from Richard Delecia, Chris Bowyer and an own goal saw the Tilehurst side knock out the reigning holders 3-2. Wycliffe Wanderers' good form continues and a 4-2 win over Finchampstead saw them book the final place in the last four. Johnny Rabin and James Kirby netted for the home side but goals from Dave Cuthbertson, Owen Bravey (2) and Mark Moffat sealed the victory.
