Reading Post: "'Magnificent Seven' for Wyatt" with unedited report
Unfortunately the Reading Post didn't like our 'Wyatt a performance' headline this week and wrote their own!
Carl Wyatt scored a "Magnificent Seven" goals as Warfield FC romped to an emphatic 15-0 victory at basement side Vineyard FC. And, with Tilehurst Albion and Brookside Saint Laurence not in action, the reigning champios took took full advantage and moved into second place behind Kerith Community Church. Captain Lee Warner added a treble, while Joe Warner (2), Mark Winning (2) and George Hobden rounded off the scoring. Another marksman in the goals was Neil Healy, who fired 6 goals as Wycliffe Wanderers beat Real World 8-0. In the process, he became the joint-league top scorer with 18 for the season so far (22 in all competitions.) An own goal and a Dave Cuthbertson strike sealed the win for Wanderers, who extended their unbeaten run to seven games and are making ground on the top four teams. Kerith Community Church increased their lead lead at the top of the table to two points following another high-scoring victory, this time 11-0 over Reading Saints. Scoring an average of eight goals per game, Kerith have only failed to score less than four goals in one match (a 2-2 draw with Warfield) and have hit double figures 3 times, a third of their league fixtures. Barry Agar led the way this weekend with a hat-trick, whilst doubles were scored by Ben Findlay, Lee Berry and Mark Pedley. Jim Lepp and Greg Williams finishe the job. James Hern hit all four Greyfriars goals to seal his side's first away victory of the season, 4-2 at West Reading CFC, but the game was far from one-sided. Having helped himself to a hat-trick before half-time, Hern's team had a comfortable 3 nil lead, but West Reading hit back early in the second period to make a game of it. A Gary Woodward penalty was quickly added to by a fine curling effort from Sam Ward and the home side were certainly in the ascendancy. However, Greyfriars were able to weather the storm and wrestled back some control midway through the half. Hern added his fourth to seal the win with fifteen minutes to go and could have even increased the lead before the final whistle, hitting the outside of the post having rounded the keeper.
