Reading Post: 'Nwoseh Gives Kerith a Lift'
Unedited report:
Kerith Community Church maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 6-2 victory over fellow title contenders Brookside Saint Laurence to move to the top of the league for the first time this season. Despite having more possession, Brookside were unable to convert their dominance into goals as a fine individual performance and hat trick from James Nwoseh, his second in the last two games, proved to be the difference between the two sides. An own goal, Mark Pedley and prolific scorer Ben Findlay, who continued his fine run of scoring in every game so far this season, took the game out of reach. James Hall and Courtenay Isaacs replied for Brookside Saint Laurence.
Wycliffe Wanderers twice came from behind with goals from Ross Thompson and Neil Healy to draw 2-2 in a drama filled game against Warfield and failed to seal victory with a missed penalty in each half; one hitting the post and the other one brilliantly saved by the Warfield goalkeeper in the last few minutes of the game.
Tilehurst Albion took advantage of Warfield dropping points to move into second place to maintain pressure on Kerith Community Church with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Real World Corinthians. Another fine defence performance combined with two goals each from Danny Laurence and Ali Clewer and strikes from Josh Baines and Lewis Wigginton sealed three points.
In the two other games involving teams at the bottom of the league, Greyfriars FC finally clicked to produce their best performance of the season against Vineyard FC. A blistering start to the game saw Friars take a 4-1 lead midway through the first half with two goals from Stephen Downes and strikes from James Hern and George Dodd. Alex Nicolls pulled back a goal for Vineyard FC before Jeff Hallett, a second strike from James Hern and a trademark 30 yard effort from John Ellaby gave Greyfriars a comprehensive 7-1 lead at half time. Two second half strikes from man-of-the-match Jeff Hallett completed his hat-trick and a 9-1 victory.
Bethel United maintained their mid-table position with a closely fought 3-1 victory against Reading Saints at Woodford Park in a dress rehearsal for their Quarter-Final clash in two weeks time. Goals from Stuart Newton, Lewis Atherley and Lee Bedford confirmed the victory with the Saints consolation goal coming from Gary Gimson who scored his first goal of the season.
