Welcome to the 2011/12 Season!
Dear Player
Welcome to the 2011/12 season of the Thames Valley Churches Football League!
The pre-season has been one of change within the league. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matthew Charters and Colin Lowery who both stepped down from their positions as League Secretary and Treasurer at the end of last season. Matthew has done a fantastic job keeping the league running for the past 5 years, whilst Colin has been maintaining the accounts for the past 25 years! Thank you both very much for your contribution and dedication to the league. Thank you to Richard Taylor from Real World Corinthians who has volunteered to take over as treasurer.
Sticking with the theme of change, unfortunately Finchampstead will not be entering a team into the league this season, although we hope to see them in the cup competition. We do however welcome Vineyard FC to the league. Based at Wokingham Vineyard Church, they will be sharing a pitch with Kerith this season in Great Hollands, Bracknell. I know that you will give Vineyard a warm welcome into the league and I hope that they enjoy their first season with us.
Other changes for this season include Lifespring, now known as Tilehurst Albion, and Real World, now known as Real World Corinthians. Both teams have moved grounds and will play at Thatcham and Coley Park respectively.
As a church league you need to remember that each time you play, you are representing your church and the local Christian community. Whatever your faith, background or reasons for playing in the league, we would like to challenge you to review the FA Respect Code, listed below, and consider the way in which you play football and commit to working on at least one aspect of your game throughout this season. Your challenge may be to swear less, avoid arguing with your team mates, not falsely appealing for thrown-ins or corners or respecting the referee’s decisions more.
To assist with this initiative, over the next few weeks we will be re-launching the fair play league, so keep an eye on the website for further details. The website will also be used throughout the year to update you with news, information and upcoming events, so do keep checking it regularly!
All the best for the season
James
